Hukilau Lanai Restaurant - Kauai

Where To Eat In Kauai – Hukilau Lanai – Kapaa, Kauai

If you are wondering where to eat in Kauai, and you don’t mind driving to Kapaa, try the Hukilau Lanai for great food at reasonable prices. That’s what Tom and I did last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Admittedly we rarely leave the north shore for dinner, but this occasion seemed to warrant the drive.

The restaurant is located within the Kauai Coast Resort, behind The Coconut Marketplace, in Kapaa, about a 35 minute drive from Honu Point Vacation Rental. The seating is on a covered lanai overlooking the grounds of the resort.

The menu offers seven pupus (appetizers) ranging in price from $10 to $14.  The rest of the menu is divided up into Fresh From The Net (four fish choices); Lovin’ From The Oven (vegetable lasagna, mushroom meat loaf, prime rib; and Grill And Pan (chicken, pork, and two different steaks).  Prices range from $21 to $36. Each entree comes with a generous salad (four choices) or soup (gazpacho or soup of the day).

The menu at Hukilau Lanai features local Kauai products and produce, and foods made from scratch in their kitchen. There is a substantial Gluten Free menu available as well.

From 5:00 to 5:45, with reservation, you may indulge in their Food And Wine Tasting Menu which includes a five course meal with wine for $50. Food only – $32.

But, of course, who can celebrate without dessert?  There are eight desserts from which to choose, but I can never resist the “Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory” Warm Cake. It takes a lead time of 20 minutes to prepare and it comes warm to your table with a scoop of Lappert’s vanilla bean ice cream. The first cut sends oozing warm chocolate out onto the plate. It’s to die for.

With the check came a small box containing two chocolate truffles as an anniversary gift from the staff. After the decadent dessert I saved the truffles for another day but they were definitely appreciated.

If you arrive a bit early be sure to check out the live music in the bar area. Local artists play nightly from 6:00 to 9:00. A list of artists and their music styles is available on the website.

The Hukilau Lanai is open Tuesday through Sunday from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.

Apparently we’re not the only people who have enjoyed the Hukilau Lanai. Here is a Yelp review written on June 7, 2017 by Mary from Chula Vista:

We had the privilege of recently dining in this establishment during our trip to Kauai. We visited twice, as we were taken aback the first time by the excellent food and service.

I will start with the best, dessert. We loved it so much I had to inquire about their coconut cheesecake recipe–the most delicious dessert I have ever eaten.

My boyfriend ordered the fillet mignon–medium rare (leaning more toward rare)–he swore it is the best he has ever had. I tried it as well, and I can agree there is no better place for either of us that has served such an exquisite dish. The texture and taste were somehow very similar, soft, buttery, it melted in our tongues.

As far as appetizers go, the poke nachos were amazing! One might think, “nachos? Too common.” No! I am telling you, these are the classiest, most delicious nachos in existence.

Now down to the wine. Their selections was enticing, we decided on a Montepulciano. We could not have asked for something better. It tied everything in.

The service we received was excellent, from the wonderful hostesses to our lovely waiters. Oh, and I must not forget the welcoming bartender who made us two “loco lemonade” drinks while we waited to be seated.

We highly recommend this restaurant! If you are visiting the island of Kauai, do NOT leave without coming here first!

Thank you all at Hukilau Lanai for making both our dining experiences such a wonder!

So, take a night off from the north shore or have a great meal before getting on your plane to return home. It’s my bet you’ll enjoy the experience whether you’re celebrating an occasion or not.
