Lava Lava Beach Club Opens Back Up – Kauai
Update (April 2022): In addition to their dinner hours, Lava Lava has opened back up for breakfast and lunch ….. sort of. They call is Grab & Go, but that is misleading. My friend and I stopped by yesterday to have lunch. Our order was taken at the counter where we paid. Then we found our own table in the sand and shade where our food was delivered. I ordered the fish tacos and my friend ordered a hamburger. My tacos were sooo good, mostly because of the tasty tortillas, but the mahi mahi and sauce rivaled any other fish taco I’ve eaten. And, I’ve eaten plenty. My friend’s hamburger and onion rings were top notch. I am thrilled that they are open again for lunch, even if it is not quite full service. The Grab & Go hours for breakfast are 7:00 to 10:00. For lunch, 11:00 to 2:00. Happy Hour starts at 3:00.
Original Post: Many people have been waiting for the Lava Lava Beach Club to open back up following the Covid pandemic. It is a favorite dining spot for residents and visitors alike. The airy restaurant features good food, live music, and “toes in the sand” dining. Since it opened a few years ago, it has been a favorite spot for breakfast, lunch, Happy Hour, and dinner. For now, the restaurant is open only for Happy Hour and dinner, daily, from 3:00 to 9:00 PM. I can’t wait until they expand those hours. I love to stop there for lunch after picking friends up from the airport. It is a great introduction to the east side of the Garden Island.
I have not personally ventured down from the north shore for dinner yet, but their menu looks delicious. Main entree choices include fresh fish (of course), coconut shrimp, three steak choices, baby back ribs, burgers, and rice bowls. There are also thirteen apetizers (pupus), six flat breads, as well as soup and salad, from which to choose. I wish they would add two of my favorite lunch dishes to the dinner menu: fish tacos and/or fish and chips. The price range is from $7 to $39.
And, their cocktails are legendary!
Liquid Happy Hour is from 3:00 to 4:30. There is an Afternoon Menu which includes 10 pupus and 6 Island Inspired Flat Breads. Price range is from $8.00 to $20.00 (Sashimi). All alcoholic beverages are $2.00 off the standard price. Are you getting thirsty?

So, the next time you find yourself driving through Kapaa after 3:00, pull into the Lava Lava Beach Club and put your toes in the sand. You will be able to enjoy the ocean breezes with a cool drink in your hand. With music and dinner at your finger tips, you may not want to leave for awhile.
