Kauai’s Live Music Events at Anaina Hou

If you are lucky enough to be on Kauai during the next three months, be sure to check out Kauai’s live music events scheduled at Anaina Hou! As part of their dedication to providing community programs for the residents and visitors on the North Shore, and throughout the island, Anaina Hou has booked four unique and talented artists to perform at the beautiful, open-air, Porter Pavilion. This venue sits directly behind the Anaina Hou Mini Golf in Kilauea. If you are not going to be on island during this time period, please enjoy the videos and be sure to check Anaina Hou’s website for musical events happening during your future trips to the Garden Island.

April 14th and 15th – Leftover Salmon

“Since their earliest days as a forward thinking, progressive bluegrass band who had the guts to add drums to the mix and who was unafraid to stir in any number of highly combustible styles into their ever evolving sound, to their role as a pioneer of the modern jamband scene, to their current status as elder statesmen of the scene who cast a huge influential shadow over every festival they play, Leftover Salmon has been a crucial link in keeping alive the traditional music of the past while at the same time pushing that sound forward with their own weirdly, unique style.” Anaina Hou

Leftover Salmon

“For thirty years, Leftover Salmon has blended musical styles from rock and bluegrass to zydeco and Cajun into an undeniably original sound and forever influenced generations of bands from across the musical spectrum. Emerging from the progressive bluegrass world and coming of age as one the original jambands, Leftover Salmon rose to become architects of what has become known as Jamgrass—a style in which bluegrass can break free through nontraditional instrumentation and stylistic experimentation.” This is a description of the band as highlighted on Amazon where you may purchase the book, written by Tim Newby, about this long lasting band. The book’s title is “Leftover Salmon: Thirty Years of Festival.”

April 29th – John Cruz

Hawaii’s legend, and 2022 Na Hoku Hanohano (Hawaii’s equivalent to the GRAMMY awards) winner for his single’s, “It’s Time to Build A Bridge” music video, John Cruz returns to Kauai for another entertaining evening of music. With over 1 million people streaming his music every year, Cruz is one of Hawaii’s most beloved artists.

John Cruz

“Throughout his career, Cruz has delivered the full package – soulful vocals, supreme musicianship and stellar songs. Last year, he made clear he has no intention of backing down – electrifying venues across the islands with a band that both rocks and enthralls, bringing to life the classic songs we know and love alongside new tunes that hit equally hard. Perhaps more than anything though, we’re excited to simply have John Cruz back on our stage, opening his heart and extending a compassionate hand to everyone in attendance like he always has and seemingly always will.” Anaina Hou

June 3rd – Kaneka

“Sailing in on a wave of blissful sound, Maui’s Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winning band Kanekoa has become a global phenomenon. Powered by electric ukuleles and exotic rhythms, these ukulele masters ride the wave of Hawaiian roots with jam band energy, creating a unique sound they call Hawaiian jam-rock.

For the last 25 years audiences never fail to swoon over their soulful originals and crafty covers interpreted with pure originality. The Grateful Dead’s drummer Bill Kreutzmann goes so far as to call them, ‘the Hawaiian Grateful Dead’. David Hidalgo of Los Lobos says, ‘These guys scare me. They are that good.’ They recently graced the cover of Ukulele Magazine and were referred to as ‘Hawaiian Trailblazers.’

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s legendary record ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, Kanekoa will breath their own Hawaiian Style into classic songs from Pink Floyd’s extended catalogue. The band will be joined by powerhouse vocalist Danyel Alana.” Anaina Hou
