What To Do In Kauai – Take A Kauai Humane Society Field Trip!

I’m admittedly not a dog person, but I know many of you are, so if you are missing your pooch while on vacation why not take a Kauai Humane Society dog on a field trip! That’s right, you will make one, or possibly two, canines extremely happy. And, you will have a four-legged companion for the day.

This very popular program was started a few years ago with the goal of having visitors enjoy the natural beauty of our island while getting a “dog fix” by taking along one of the shelter dogs on an adventure. The dogs stay happy, healthy and well-adjusted with this valuable time spent outdoors and you have fun providing them socialization with a variety of people prior to adoption.

All you have to do is go to the shelter to “check out” one or two of the dogs and then take them with you for a day trip on one of many Kauai dog-friendly beaches or hiking trails.  After introductions are made, the shelter will provide everything you need for the trip, including towels, bowls and an “adopt me” vest.

On any given day 3 to 10 lucky dogs are given this field trip opportunity. If you decide to be one of the visitors who give a dog this treat, be careful. You might fall in love. On average, four dogs a month are adopted by visitors who meet someone they can’t live without. The Kauai Humane Society helps with the process of flying your new pet home with you. Some of these forever homes can be seen on their website.

Not up for a field trip? Feel free to drop by and simply share your love with the animals that are temporarily living at the shelter.
