As you can tell from the photo we grow things large on the island of Kauai. This avocado happens to be from my own yard rather than from a Farmers Market; I know, lucky me! The good news is I’m willing to share. When you stay at our home, and the avos are in season, you can be sure there will be one or two waiting for you. We also grow tangerines, oranges, and limes.
Farmers Markets are held almost every day of the week somewhere around the island. But if you don’t want to drive too far from where you are staying, here is a list of markets within a 15 minute drive from Honu Point.
Tuesday – Waipa, just north of Hanalei Town (go through town and cross the one lane bridge) – 2:00
Saturday – Hanalei, by the Historic Green Church – 9:30 to 12:00
Saturday – Anaina Hou in Kilauea next to the Mini Golf – 9:00 to 1:00
You’ll find so many different kinds of fruits and vegetables, as well as Kauai ready-made food and crafts at these markets. Definitely try the apple bananas, although once you do it may ruin your desire for any other kind. Kauai’s Farmers Markets really shouldn’t be missed. Enjoy!
