Custom Cakes – Cravings of Kauai
Quite often visitors are coming to Kauai to celebrate a special event. It might be an engagement, a wedding, an anniversary, a graduation, or a significant birthday. Or, perhaps it is the last family hurrah before the kids move on to their own, independent lives. I can not imagine a celebration without cake, and I can guarantee that Sarah Wooton, of Cravings of Kauai, will provide a custom cake just perfect for your occasion.
I started noticing Sarah’s Instagram photos and comments over the last few months. The photos of her cakes showed a variety of delicious looking desserts that were often beautiful, fun, and definitely interesting! I knew she was a person I needed to contact.
Sure enough, I emailed Sarah and found out that our Covid shutdown on Kauai brought out the inner artist in her. This is definitely a success story. In her own words:
“My name is Sarah and I am the owner of Cravings of Kauai. I started making custom cakes when covid hit and my cookies, breads, granola, part of the business slowed down, so i expanded what i offered! My husband’s business (kauai kunana dairy) who mostly sells local grown produce and goat cheese through farmers markets and restaurants totally changed almost over night to online, home deliveries, so I had him put cakes on their website along with my other baked goodies just to try and keep a cash flow while still being able to help people celebrate during lockdown and beyond. Honestly I saw so many stories about people whose weddings and birthdays and anniversaries got canceled, I wanted to be able to keep that little small thing to help with their celebration during those lonely times. Plus it helped fill my extra time and hone in on that skill! I’ve been loving the challenge of all the different custom orders I get, it really is a creative outlet for me, plus I absolutely love making people happy and being able to be a small part of that special occasion!! On a side note, you DO NOT NEED A SPECIAL OCCASION TO ORDER CAKES!!!! I have an order coming up where two friends are coming together for a getaway and it isn’t complete without cake!!”
Now that visitors are flowing back into the islands, Sarah is busy creating all sorts of custom cakes for guests and residents alike. Cake flavors include: vanilla, chocolate, marble, funfetti, red velvet, banana, coconut, spice, carrot, and even rainbow (a differert color for each layer). Buttercream choices are: vanilla, chocolate, cream cheese, cookies and cream, lilikoi, peanut butter, salted caramel, and peppermint. Or, for fruit lovers, mango compote, strawberrries, raspberries, lemon curd, and banana foster. Even M&Ms or peanut butter cups can be made to spill out when your cake is cut! Other favorites are mocha cream, apple pie filling, and chocolate ganache. How does one ever choose? The most popular order is vanilla cake with lilikoi buttercream, but Sarah’s personal favorite is chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream. The great news is that this pastry chef is willing to try just about any combination you would like. So, what sounds good to you?
Another option that Sarah has to offer is a dozen (or more) cupcakes with specific colors or a theme. Here are a few impressive examples:
Sarah’s custom cakes can be picked up on the north shore, at the Kunana Dairy, about 5 miles south of Kilauea on Kapuna Road. Generally, texting is used to coordinate a pick up or delivery.
Ordering is easy, although I recommend you do so a month in advance. Payment can be made via Venmo, Square invoice, or credit card. The best way to order is by sending a text or email message to Sarah specifying the occasion, the preferred cake and filling flavor, colors, theme, or, attach an image of what you have in mind. According to Sarah, some people have very clear ideas of what they want and others just let her be the creative one.
Prices for custom cakes and cupcakes:
Six inch, triple layer cake (feeds 10 – 15 people) – $65
Eight inch, triple layer cake (feeds 20 – 25 people) – $85
Cupcakes (dozen) – $35
I must admit that I have never actually tasted one of Sarah’s custom cakes, but this emphatic comment was on a social media page:
“…. And let’s talk about taste now… ummmm WOOWWWWW!!!!!!! There aren’t even words. At least no words without swearing to describe the incredible rich flavor! Still drooling. Thank you so so much!!! Everyone was amazed!”
As Sarah mentioned in her paragraph above, prior to the Covid shutdown, she was busy making other yummy products. Her breads, cookies, and granola can be found at the Princeville Farmers Market (Saturdays 9:30 – 12:00) and the Kilauea Farmers Market (Saturdays 9:00 – 12:00). She also offers these products in some of the north shore local stores. Stop by the Wainiha Store, the Aloha Juice Bar in Hanalei, the Healthy Hut in Kilauea, the Kalalea Juice Hale in Anahola, or Papayas in Kapaa. There is also a small selection of Sarah’s baked goods at The Local Beet on the South Shore and, individual helpings at Trilogy Coffee in Kilauea.

So, have I tempted you enough? Personally I think any vacation on Kauai is worthy of one of Sarah’s custom cakes or cupcakes whether you are celebrating a special occasion or not. But, if cake is not your cup of tea, at least stop by the Kunana tent at one of the farmers markets and pick up some of her other tasty baked goods. The goat cheese products are fabulous as well. If Sarah is there, tell her you read about her baked goods on my blog! I love helping local businesses. Enjoy.
